ELM RED WOOD
ulmus rubra
Red Elm flat cut wood veneer sapwood is grayish-white to light brown while the heartwood is reddish-brown to dark brown. Can also be more pale. The grain is straight, sometimes interlocked, as well as coarse textured.
Common Uses for Flat Cut Red Elm Wood Veneer: Architectural panels, millwork, cabinetry, furniture and doors.
Other Name(s): Slippery Elm.
The Tree: This medium sized tree grows 40-60 feet in height with trunk diameters usually only between 1-2 feet.
A Little History: Traditionally, Red Elm wood was used for furniture, railroad ties, ship building and fence posts.
