When our logs arrive on the log yard they are separated into parcels by specie, grade, and length – then marked with bar code tags for precise tracking throughout the manufacturing process. It is very easy to follow a tree from round-log form into graded veneer. During the summer months the logs are kept under recycled water in order to avoid staining and cracking.

M. Bohlke Veneer is the industry leader in veneer slicing technology and is proud to have the largest single veneer manufacturing facility in North America. We continuously develop new technologies to improve our cutting quality and maximize our production volume. We have pioneered many processes used throughout the industry, including computerized cooking systems, super finishing knife grinding, vacuum flitch beds and press dryer moisture control systems. Our slicing mill consists of 6 slicers, all equipped with our patented vacuum flitch beds, as well as three half round slicers. MBVC has superior capacity with two veneer clipping and measuring lines along with twenty-eight cooking vats. In addition to our slicing mill, M. Bohlke Veneer has a lathe peeling mill where we cut a variety of burls and specialty woods like Birdseye Maple and Sapele Pommele with three lathe machines. This mill is self-sufficient and equipped with the same leading technology as our slicing plant.

Over the last 25 years we have expanded our capacity to warehouse extensive inventories of veneer to better serve our customers. We have four warehouses adjacent and connected to one another that segregate indigenous, imported, burl and flitch stock veneer. To allow for customers to focus on their veneer inspection, we have four heated and air conditioned showrooms, which are designed to accommodate large veneer inspections while undisturbed. Additionally we have a first class veneer sample showroom that showcases over 150 species.

Marc Bohlke developed and built our face splicing plant. This manufacturing facility uses the latest technology to splice veneers together using hard glue line joining. MB Face produces dimensioned faces for the panel and door industries. In addition, the face plant manufactures several different cut-to-size options for specific requested sizes. The manufacturing processes have been highly automated to eliminate the handling of the veneers, avoiding any damage to the finely guillotined edges before splicing and maximizing production volume. The warehouse and splicing facility, which is conveniently located across from the veneer manufacturing plant, houses the inventory of our Engineered Veneer faces and Bamboo inventory. The Face plant is a perfect complement to our veneer production.

We stock over 50 species of imported lumber in a variety of thicknesses. During the process of buying fine, imported timber for veneer production, we hand select superior quality logs to produce high-end lumber. We specialize in rare and hard-to-find lumber for custom millwork, yacht and musical applications and for furniture manufacturers. The vast majority of qualities available are FAS & Better, which is the prime grade in the lumber industry. We carry a large inventory of square edge lumber as well as ‘boules’ – fully debarked and trimmed logs – sawn into lumber and kept intact in log-form. This provides superior sequence, grain and color matching, since each plank is part of the same tree. We also carry a large inventory of large table tops in a variety of impressive species, many of which can be seen purchased with the natural edge on each side of the board. Our goal is to complement your veneer selection with whatever specialty lumber that may be needed for your project.
