Wenge is a tree of Central Africa and has been a favorite of woodworkers for decades—it has excellent strength and hardness properties and is often a more cost-effective substitute for Ebony. This species is one of the naturally darkest woods in the world, and when conventionally dried, has dark, rich browns, sometimes with slight red hues.
