Makore live edge slabs vary in color from lighter pinks to bright reds, and usually have a beautiful reddish-brown tone. Grain is straight, fine textured; also has a good natural luster. Makore resembles African Mahogany (Khaya) but the texture is more fine. (Sometimes called Cherry Mahogany or African Cherry, although Makore is not closely related to any of the species within the mahogany family.)
