December 2021 | Etimoe

Etimoe veneer log sample rolled up from M. Bohlke Veneer.

Etimoe wood veneer is derived from a tree native to West and Central Africa. These trees regularly grow up to 100 feet, sometimes reaching 165 feet in height – trunk diameters can be as wide as 9 feet. Because these trees are large, it’s not unusual to find logs that yield large quantities of veneer or lumber. This makes Etimoe a top choice for design projects calling for substantial amounts of decorative veneer in sequence.

Etimoe veneer heartwood is usually a reddish brown with a speckled appearance. Plain and medium- to heavily-figured logs are available (notably fiddleback and block mottle figuring). Darker brown or red veins are sometimes visible and the grain is generally straight or interlocked. Etimoe veneer also has a fine and even texture, as well as good natural luster and strength.

Etimoe veneer log samples laid up at M. Bohlke Veneer.

Both architectural and acoustic panels, millwork, cabinetry and doors, as well as furniture are all common uses for this veneer.

In addition, we also have fumed Etimoe veneer logs available. The fumed versions display deeper chocolatey browns compared to the naturally occurring reddish browns. Fumed Etimoe remains a hot species in the architectural and aircraft design world, and is also used in millwork, cabinetry and doors, as well as high-end furniture.
